Terms of Service

Contractual Acceptance
Slippify is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) financial utility application, operated by Slippify (Pty) Ltd — a tool for tracking, organising, and splitting expenses for your own personal spending, for a shared household or trip with a group, or for classifying business and travel expenses for your own records or reimbursement claims. It is a record-keeping and calculation tool, not an authorised or licensed financial services provider, bank, financial institution, financial or investment adviser, credit provider, insurer, payment institution, or tax, accounting, or legal adviser, except where a specific regulated service is provided by an appropriately authorised third party (Section 3 sets this out formally).
Slippify (Pty) Ltd · CIPC registration 2026/760947/07 · Information Regulator registration 2026-067431 · Information Officer: Eugene le Roux · Privacy/compliance: compliance@slippify.io.
By accessing or using Slippify on slippify.io or slippify.co.za, you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. These provisions are governed by the laws of South Africa, including the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 ("ECTA"), without prejudice to any statutory consumer or data-protection rights you hold under the law of your own country of residence that cannot lawfully be waived by contract.
You must be at least 18 years old and have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract to use Slippify. By using the Service, you confirm that you meet this requirement.
Service Description
Slippify is free to download and use. Certain features that rely on paid third-party processing — receipt scanning in particular — are metered using Service Credits, which you can buy in the app; Section 2 explains exactly how they work. Slippify is made up of the following features. All of them are expense-tracking and calculation tools for your own use — none of them move, hold, or manage money on your behalf:
- Solo Bill Split: upload a receipt, let Google Services extract line items and totals, and split them your way.
- Group Tabs: a shared, running expense ledger for a household, trip, or recurring group, with settlement tracking between members.
- Budgeting: categorised spend tracking and monthly budget summaries drawn from your own recorded splits.
- Business & Travel Expense Classification: tag any line item or expense as Business or Personal — useful for separating work travel, client entertainment, or trip costs from your own spending in your Cost Breakdown. This is a personal record-keeping aid only; it does not submit anything to your employer, a tax authority, or any statutory body on your behalf, and does not substitute for your employer's own expense-claim process (Section 4 explains why you must still verify every figure yourself).
- PayShap Directory: an optional, self-reported contact-detail directory that lets group and session members pay each other back directly — Slippify is never a party to that payment.
- Merchant Intelligence Portal: a separate, invite-only analytics and account-settings surface we provision directly for verified restaurant/merchant partners — a distinct audience from the consumer app described above, but governed by these same Terms.
Service Credits
Slippify is free to download and use. Certain features that rely on paid third-party processing — principally, scanning a receipt using Google Services (Section 8) — are metered using Service Credits ("Credits"), a prepaid unit you purchase within the app to cover that processing cost. Credits are not a subscription and not a wallet.
- Free trial Credits: new accounts start with a small number of Credits granted as a promotional allowance, not a purchase. We may occasionally grant further promotional Credits at our discretion; these follow the same rules below, except that they are never refundable, since you paid nothing for them.
- Buying Credits: Service Credit purchases are not currently available. When they open, they will be processed by a regulated third-party payment provider (Section 8) — we will never see or store your card or bank details. Your current balance is always visible in Profile.
- Not money: Credits are not legal tender or currency; are not redeemable, refundable, or exchangeable for any sum of money except where required by law; have no value in any fiat currency; and confer no ownership right in Slippify. Your Credit balance is not a bank account, digital wallet, stored-value account, or other payment device — Slippify does not extend credit, pay interest, or lend money against it.
- Non-transferable: Credits are personal to your account and may not be sold, gifted, traded, or transferred to anyone else. We do not recognise any purported transfer, and attempting one is a breach of Section 6 that may result in the Credits being revoked.
- No expiry today: Credits currently do not expire. If we ever introduce an expiry, we will state it clearly on the purchase screen first, and it will only apply to Credits bought after that change — never retroactively.
- Failed scans are refunded automatically: if a scan fails because of a processing error on our side, the Credit you spent on it is returned to your balance immediately — you're only charged for a scan that completes.
- All sales final: we don't refund Credits you've already purchased, used or unused, except where applicable consumer-protection law requires it. A remaining balance is forfeited if your account is closed (Section 5), subject to the same exception.
- No subscription — for now: Slippify doesn't currently offer a subscription plan; every paid feature runs on Credits alone. We may introduce an optional subscription in future. If we do, we'll update these Terms and clearly disclose its price, billing frequency, and cancellation terms before you're ever charged — nothing here should be read as an existing subscription commitment.
- Abuse: we may suspend, adjust, or revoke Credits tied to fraudulent, abusive, or Terms-violating use (Section 6).
Not an Authorised Financial Services Provider
Slippify is not a registered or authorised Financial Services Provider under the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act 37 of 2002, not a registered credit provider under the National Credit Act 34 of 2005, and not a bank or deposit-taking institution under the Banks Act 94 of 1990. Slippify is also not a financial institution, financial adviser, investment adviser, insurer, payment institution, tax adviser, accounting adviser, or legal adviser, except to the extent a specific regulated service is provided through an appropriately authorised third-party provider (for example, a regulated third-party payment provider's payment-processing role, Sections 2 and 8). Nothing in the Service constitutes financial, investment, credit, insurance, tax, accounting, or legal advice, and no part of it should be relied upon as such. Slippify provides software tools that help users track, organise, split, classify, budget and analyse personal, group, business and travel expenses. Slippify does not provide financial, investment, tax, accounting or legal advice, and does not itself provide regulated financial services unless expressly stated otherwise for a particular service provided through an appropriately authorised third party.
Slippify is a software tool, not a registered tax practitioner, certified public accountant, or financial advisor. All OCR captures and parsed totals are machine-generated estimations, provided as a general reference only. The final validation, verification, and submission of all tax calculations to any statutory body remain your exclusive legal responsibility. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Slippify is not responsible for losses, inaccurate financial entries, or audit penalties arising solely from your failure to verify information generated or calculated by the Service before relying on it — Section 4 sets out this data-accuracy responsibility in full.
Slippify does not hold, custody, or take control of your funds at any point, and — beyond the purchase of Service Credits (Section 2) — does not currently initiate, process, route, or receive any payment on your behalf. If you or your groupmates choose to settle a bill or a Group Tab balance between yourselves, that payment happens entirely outside Slippify, through your own banking app or payment provider; Slippify may display a self-reported contact detail (such as a PayShap number, Section 1) to make that easier, but is never a party to the payment itself. Slippify does not extend credit, lend money, or hold client funds in trust or in any pooled account. Any figure shown as "owed" or "settled" within a Group Tab is a record you and your groupmates keep for your own reference — Slippify does not enforce, guarantee, or collect on it.
Data Accuracy & Your Responsibility to Verify
Slippify uses Google Services to extract line items, totals, and merchant details from your receipts through automated recognition, and applies deterministic calculation logic to compute splits, balances, and budget summaries from that data. We make every reasonable effort to keep this extraction and calculation accurate, and we treat any bug that produces an incorrect figure as something to fix, not a shrug.
However, Slippify does not warrant, and cannot guarantee, that automatically extracted receipt data, displayed currency conversions, Business/Personal expense classifications, or any other figure shown in the app is complete or error-free. Optical character recognition can misread a smudged, folded, or poor-quality receipt; a currency conversion shown for your convenience is not a locked, audited exchange rate; and a split or balance is only as accurate as the inputs you or your groupmates confirmed.
You are solely responsible for reviewing, checking, and correcting any data captured or calculated by the Service — against the original receipt, invoice, or bank statement — before relying on it for any purpose, including settling a bill with your groupmates, submitting a business or travel expense claim, filing a tax return, or making a budgeting decision. Slippify accepts no liability for any loss, expense-claim rejection, tax penalty, or dispute between group members arising from data you did not verify before relying on it.
Your Data, Account Rights & Off-Boarding
Full detail on what we collect, retain, and how to exercise your data rights lives in our Privacy Policy — this section covers the account-lifecycle mechanics as a matter of contract.
- You may close your account at any time via Profile → Danger Zone → Delete Account. If you are the sole full member of a group with no successor, or have an outstanding group balance, you'll be asked to resolve that first — this protects your groupmates' ledgers, not a barrier to leaving.
- Shared ledger history survives your departure, anonymised. Amounts, dates, and splits you were party to in a Group Tab remain part of your former groupmates' records after your account is deleted — your name is replaced with "Deleted User." We cannot unilaterally erase entries that are also part of someone else's financial record on your request alone; this is explained in full, including exactly what is and isn't deleted, in Privacy Policy Section 8.
- You may export your data at any time via Profile → Danger Zone → Export Data, before or independent of deleting your account.
- We may suspend or terminate your account for breach of the Acceptable Conduct rules below, on reasonable notice where practicable except in cases of suspected fraud or security risk, where we may act immediately. Termination by us does not entitle you to a refund of unused Credits (Section 2) except as required by applicable consumer law.
Acceptable Conduct
- No fraudulent captures: you may not upload modified, synthetic, counterfeit, or forged invoices.
- No scraping or automation: you may not use headless browsers or automated scripts to catalog endpoints or query our systems.
- No Credit or rate-limit bypass: injecting false session tokens, bypassing rate limits, or spoofing invite tokens is treated as service theft.
- No misuse of the PayShap Directory: the directory exists solely to let people you're already splitting a bill with pay you back — publishing, scraping, or using it to contact people outside that context is prohibited.
- No misrepresenting expense classifications: tagging an expense as Business when it is not, in order to mislead a third party (an employer, insurer, or tax authority) reviewing your export, is your misuse of the tool, not Slippify's — see Section 4.
Proprietary Rights
The Slippify name, logo, illustrations, OCR pipeline, and interface designs are the exclusive property of Slippify (Pty) Ltd. You are granted a limited, personal, non-transferable, and revocable license to access the platform via supported browsers or as an installed progressive web app. You retain ownership of the content you upload (e.g. your receipt photos); by uploading, you grant us the limited license needed to process and store it in order to provide the Service to you.
Third-Party Services
Certain features depend on independent third-party services we don't control — receipt scanning uses Google Services, any future Service Credit purchases (Section 2) will be processed by a regulated third-party payment provider, and sign-in uses Google Sign-In. Each provider operates under its own terms, and their availability or performance is outside our control. See Privacy Policy Section 4 for what data reaches each of them.
Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Slippify (Pty) Ltd, its directors, employees, and agents from any claim, demand, loss, or liability (including reasonable legal costs) to the extent it arises out of: your breach of these Terms; your misuse of the Service, including uploading fraudulent, forged, or unlawfully obtained receipts; or your violation of any law or the rights of a third party, including a fellow group member. This indemnity does not extend to a dispute between you and another user that did not arise from your own breach, misuse, or unlawful conduct — Slippify staying outside a Group Tab or PayShap payment (Section 3) does not by itself make you responsible for someone else's conduct. Nothing in this section requires you to indemnify us for our own gross negligence or wilful misconduct.
Limitation of Liability
The Slippify services are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, including as to the accuracy of automatically extracted or user-entered data (Section 4). In no event shall Slippify (Pty) Ltd be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, data, or use, whether in an action in contract or tort, arising from your access to or use of the platform. Nothing in this section limits or excludes any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under applicable consumer-protection or data-protection law, including for Slippify's own gross negligence, wilful misconduct, or unlawful processing of your personal information.
Governing Law, Disputes & General
These Terms are governed by the laws of South Africa. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of any mandatory protection afforded to you by the law of your country of habitual residence. We encourage resolving disputes informally by contacting compliance@slippify.io before pursuing formal action.
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable or invalid by a competent court or regulator, that provision will be severed and the remainder of these Terms will continue in full force and effect. Our failure to enforce any provision at a given time is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later. You may not cede, assign, or transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms to anyone else without our prior written consent; we may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, provided your rights under this agreement are not diminished as a result.
Changes to These Terms
We'll update the "Last Updated" date above whenever these Terms change, and prompt you to review and re-accept material changes the next time you use the app, rather than applying them silently.
